We spent most of the day talking about plans, because Thorp and Lilintia were a fountain of information. When I asked how Lilintia knew so much about things outside the village, she snorted and reminded me that she worked at an inn. Where hunters, warriors, traders, and just about everyone stopped by and talked. She was an information gathering whirlwind.
With all that, we had a lot to think about. At Thorpâs suggestion, we headed, instead of directly to the border, towards it, taking a longer route for two reasons. One was for me to train with Mika every night with the weapon I wanted to get better with. I had, of course, suggested all of them, but Thorp laughed at my zeal, saying that I should stick to one. For now.
I decided on the long sword for two reasons. My strength and my speed. Lita agreed. With the nanobots inside me and with leveling, I was gaining strength and speed. While it would be handy to wield a short sword and shield, the stopping power would be with the long sword for the most damage done. When I said I might want a shield, Fiona reminded me that I could learn to create a shield, either with Water magic or even Earth Magic. With Earth Magic, I might be able to create one using stone.
I just wasnât sure the strength of a shield made of stone or how heavy it would be. It was something for us to test out.
The second reason was to check on a couple of villages where Fionaâs mother had heard mention of monster attacks. This way, if there were monsters loose outside the border, we would be able to take them down and even get our hands on cores. Now that Mika had magic, I wanted to get her one. I wouldn't mind having a couple more myself; even Fiona agreed.
We were hours on the trails already, with Lita on point in her wolf form, sniffing for anything. She was followed by Fiona, Mika, and me. Mika suggested she take the end, but I shook my head and said I would be fine taking the position. I honestly wanted her near Fiona in case anything happened. This way, she was sandwiched between Mika and Lita. It was early since we left the cave at about seven in the morning after having a nice breakfast of hot bread and meats. We had cheese too, but I didnât want to eat our entire supply of food before we headed out.
Thankfully, Lilintia had included in my supply purchases things such as flour, sugar, yeast, and other things in case we wanted to make our own food. Though, how to do that while traveling, I wasnât sure. But I could always make something called Bannock. It was called travel bread here. Same concept. Simply mix flour with water, baking powder, salt, butter, or oil, which we also had. Honestly, the amount of gear in my spatial bag astounded me.
I was also mostly broke now.
